I arrived back form DC deciding to see as much of NYC as I could. So I took a train down to Coney Island in Brooklyn. All boardwalks and old funfair rides. I stopped first at Brighton Beach. Which is, in essence, Little Russia. I have never seen an area like that before, Indian, Greek, Chinese, but hearing Russian on the streets and kinda fun and exotic. I then went up through Prospect Park, designed by the same people as Central Park. Very grand, with Grand Army plaza at its NE point. Sort of a Parisian streetscape, with Arch and everything. Then, to cut a long story short I went to the Ballet. A friend of Suti's works for the Met, so we got free tickets to see a Mid Summer's Nights Dream. It was incredible.
The following day the shopping started in earnest. I had a list of things to get, for me and others. This took most of Thursday and Friday. As did revisiting the Guggenheim and exploring the city.
Saturday we went up State to a gallery in a small town. It was an amazing space though. All the modern artists and sculptures you can think of, all installed in the biggest warehouse space I've ever seen. Most of which were designed for the space itself. We then went over to Brooklyn to a gig. A very small intimate room, with an incredible performer. A real New York moment.
Yesterday was my last day. Unfortunately the weather turned, and it is now the end of Tropical Storm Barry overhead! I wandered around downtown to see Ground Zero and the statue of Liberty, but also ducked into the cinema to see Pirates III! Not a speculator way to finish my trip, but fun none the less!
