The journey down the Mekong river into Vietnam was what we all needed. Just watching the world go by for a few hours. Crossing the border was the most interesting yet. We lost our passports for some time, and our luggage more than once!
You can tell straight away you're in another country when you get to Vietnam as even the countryside becomes more regulated with irrigation for the rice fields. When we got to Chou doc, the border town we hopped onto motorbike taxis and went up to the top of the nearby mountain for a beer and watch the sunset. One side was Vietnam and the other Cambodia, and the difference was marked.
The next day was another early rise for a 6 hr journey to Ho Chi Mihn city. I know its not the best example of Vietnam, but it was a bit bland and noisy after Cambodia. I walked around, saw the sights in a couple of hrs, not too exciting. The food was excellent, and we ate in the market with all the fresh food cooked in front of us. This was our last night as a group, so it was a late one, especially as Ireland played England in the rugby - 1 am kick off and a lock in!
The next day I flew back to Bangkok. Most of my group travelled on up through Vietnam to the north. I'm really looking forward to their photos to see the rest of the country.
